Data and Stats on Gay Households

Currently, there are only 7 states and Washington D.C. that allow gay marriage or the equivalent of it. The most recent one is California, that was just passed this year. Massachusetts and California are the only ones to call it marriage but New Jersey, Virginia, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Washington D.C., and Oregon have civil unions which are similar except they don't include federal benefits given to opposite sex couples. California has the largest number of same sex couples with 108,734 of t hem. There are over 30,000 of them in Massachusetts. 21,405 same sex couples in New Jersey, 9,540 households in Connecticut, and 2,886 in Vermont.
